MICE are a both a nuisance and a potential health and even safety issue. The house mouse is the common nuisance mouse in Maine homes.

Lots of people have mice, what’s the big deal?
Mice commonly carry a number of diseases which can be transmitted to humans through food contamination or through respiration. Leptospirosis, salmonella rickettsia and dermatitis all can be contracted from mouse feces. A more serious concern is hantavirus, which usually is contracted through respiratory injestion. The first known case of hantavirus in Maine occurred last year.

Will they damage my home?
Mice destroy insulation in the nesting process, they chew wiring to control the growth of their teeth, and the smell fromtheir waste can be very difficult to defeat.

What is the best method of controlling mice?
Mice are most effectively controlled through baiting both inside and outside. A thorough bait program will usually result in no evidence of mice inside. The ones that venture past the outside stations take bait at inside stations and nearly always leave the premises to die.

The bait stations have locks that neither children or pets are able to open. Outside stations are secured to the ground or a solid surface. All stations contain a solid block bait to minimize the possiblity of unplanned contact with the bait.

What will it cost?
The initial set up of stations and baiting will run from $195 to $325 for a single family home. Refilling the stations, which is necessary only once or twice a year for most properties, will run about half of the cost of the original service.
